Port Brings Cheer to Langer Primary School
Tuesday 9th January 2007

The Port of Felixstowe, a member of Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) Group, has brought some New Year cheer to Langer Primary School in Felixstowe, by making a donation of £5,000 towards the refurbishment and restocking of the school library.

The donation from the Port of Felixstowe is under the auspices of the HPH ‘Dock School’ Programme, a scheme pioneered by the HPH Group, to ensure that ports build and maintain good relationships with schools in the area in which they operate.

The cheque was presented to Mrs Catherine Banthorp, Headmistress of Langer Primary School, at the Port of Felixstowe’s annual Community Reception, held on Tuesday 9th January 2007 at the Hotel Elizabeth Orwell, in Felixstowe

Chris Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, owners of the Port of Felixstowe, commented:

“We are proud to be able to give this donation to Langer Primary School, a school whose links with the Port go back many years. A library is often the centre of school life, and this donation will ensure that the pupils have a wide range of books from which to learn, and a nice environment in which to do so. We are committed to the community in which we do our business, and aim to ensure that, wherever possible, we can ‘do our bit’ to help that community prosper”.

Mrs Catherine Banthorp, Headmistress of Langer Primary School, added:

“Langer Primary School has undergone a major building extension and refurbishment programme over the last eighteen months. Having the available funds means that work on our plans to re-stock and bring the school library up to date can now start. We are very grateful to the Port of Felixstowe for their donation to our library, and we look forward to many more years as an HPH ‘Dock School’”.

In 1992, the Port of Felixstowe made a significant donation to the school, which helped to create and stock the current library.

In 2006, the Port made donations under the ‘Dock School’ Programme to Fairfield Infants School, and Colneis Junior School, in Felixstowe.
