Port Welcomes EWL's New Service
Wednesday 24th January 2007

The Port of Felixstowe has welcomed Europe West Indies Line’s (EWL) decision to introduce a new service. The main EWL service running between Europe-Caribbean/Central America has been upgraded to 6 vessels, 5 at 1100 TEU’s and one at 1300 TEU’s operating a fixed day weekly rotation calling at Felixstowe every Saturday. The service now also includes a direct Canadian call into the Port of Halifax with a 12-day transit time between Felixstowe and Canada.

The inaugural vessel on this service to call at Felixstowe was the EWL Canada which was carrying the first reefer containers moving under EWL’s recently acquired contract with banana importers Fyffes.

Commenting on the new service, Chris Lewis, Chief Executive Officer for Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, owners of the Port of Felixstowe, said:

“We welcome EWL’s decision to upgrade their service to a fixed day weekly slot and the addition of the Port of Halifax to their schedule thus creating this new Trans-Atlantic link. The Port has a long standing relationship with EWL and we are delighted that they intend to build upon the services they already have running from Felixstowe.”

Rod Wise, Managing Director of Europe West Indies Line (UK) added:

“We are very pleased to announce the enhancement of the EWL service from Felixstowe. The recent addition of the Halifax call has been well received and we are happy to be able to provide a link to the Canadian interior, Caribbean and South America for our UK customers. In all we are serving over 40 destinations.”

He continued: “EWL have been a long standing customer of The Port of Felixstowe, and have enjoyed a close and constructive working relationship enabling us to build for the future in this very demanding commercial environment. With the Ports’ support in facilities and strong forward thinking in their developments we have been able to offer our Principals and customers a reliable, efficient and fast turn around of cargo and vessels”.

The port rotation of the new service is: Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Bilbao, Halifax, Phillipsburg, Port of Spain, La Guaira, Puerto Cabello, Cartegena, Santa Marta, Puerto Cortes, Santo Tomas de Castilla and Belize.
