Harwich International Port welcomes the latest addition to the Costa Cruises fleet, with the arrival of the 2,260-passenger Costa Luminosa on its maiden voyage on Monday 15th June 2009.
The brand new vessel was named, along with its stable-mate the Costa Pacifica, on 5th June in Genoa at the world's first double christening of ships built by the same yard.
Passengers on this luxury cruise ship will be able to enjoy the delights of Harwich and the surrounding areas, including Colchester and Dedham Vale, during their stopover.
The ship itself boasts the fleet’s highest proportion of balcony cabins (68%), Playstation 3 game consoles in every cabin, a 20-seat 4D Cinema, a top-deck skating track, and a double-deck Spa, and two swimming pools, as well as four restaurants and 11 bars.
Chris Lewis, Chief Executive Officer for Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, owners of Harwich International Port, said:
“The decision by Costa to include Harwich International on the itinerary of its newest ship is evidence of the strength of the UK cruise market and the importance of Harwich as a destination in its own right. Add to that the wide range of unique leisure options across the East of England available within a comfortable transfer time from Harwich, ranging from traditional countryside towns, to vibrant cities, and there is something for every cruise passenger.”
The 294-metre-long Costa Luminosa will be arriving from Le Havre, and sailing to Amsterdam from Harwich, at the end of a Northern European itinerary.
