Chase Lane Primary School, Harwich, is celebrating a sizeable donation of £2,300 from the Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) ‘Dock School Programme’.

HPH, the parent company of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited (‘HPUK’), owners of Harwich International Port, runs the scheme through which schools close to an HPH Port receive financial assistance and enjoy close and mutually-beneficial relationships.

The donation is being used to fund improvements to the school’s ICT equipment, giving pupils the opportunity to be at the forefront of ICT research and development, aiding not only their generic ICT skills, but their competences across the curriculum as a whole.

The cheque was presented by Daren Taylor, General Manager of Harwich International Port, to Paul Bertram, Head of Sport and IT at Chase Lane Primary School at a school assembly.

David Gledhill, Chief Executive of HPUK, commented:

“The HPH Dock Schools Programme provides our ports with a mechanism to support local schools, and it allows the schools to benefit from links with one of the area’s biggest employers. We are committed to the community in which we do our business, and aim to ensure that, wherever possible, we can ‘do our bit’ to help that community prosper.”

Paul Bertram, ICT Co-Ordinator at Chase Lane Primary School, said:

“This has allowed the children at the School to have the most up to date software available and in the competitive world in which we live, any advantage will aid the children's future education and future job prospects, so a big thank you to Harwich International for aiding in our pupil's learning.”

Other schools in Harwich have also benefited from Dock School funding over the past few years, including The Harwich School and Harwich Community Primary School.
