To further enhance operations, Thamesport (London) Limited has ordered 11 new terminal tractors from manufacturer Terberg DTS.
The order for the new YT220 Terberg terminal tractors was placed at the beginning of March. The first of the four terminal tractors will be leased through Barloworld, and will arrive at the Port in the first week of May. The remaining seven will be purchased outright by Thamesport, through Transtec Equipment, and will be delivered in September.
Thamesport currently has 35 terminal tractors operating on site. With a total area of 85 hectares, this injection of new equipment, to replace older, less efficient machines, will ensure faster turnaround times to and from the yard and quay.
The terminal tractors feature powerful 4x2 drivelines that are suitable for handling heavy cargo up to Gross Combination weights of 75 tons. All tractors are built to conform to a modular concept, with ergonomically designed safety cabs, fulfilling ROPS (Roll-Over Protection Systems) and FOPS (Falling Object Protection Systems) safety tests. They feature the latest in chassis construction methods and low emission engine technologies.
